I WAS LOOKING FOR AN INDIANISED DESIGN
FOR MY STAINED GLASS PROJECT
WHEN I CAME ACROSS A TRADITIONAL ONE...
BUT- TO ME IT LOOKED MORE LIKE A KOLAM...
KOLAM IS THE TRADITIONAL DESIGNS WHICH
ADORN THE PORTALS AND THE PUJA ROOMS
OF INDIAN HOMES...
KOLAMS ARE USUALLY DONE WITH WHITE COLORED RICE FLOUR OR RICE PASTE...
BUT FOR FESTIVE OCCASIONS,MULTICOLORED
RANGOLIS ADORN THE FLOORS OF HOMES AND PUBLIC PLACES ...
I DECIDED TO MAKE THIS FLORAL PATTERN
ON A MIRROR
WITH TYPICALLY TRADITIONAL,BRIGHT COLORS
LIKE CRIMSON,YELLOW,ORANGE,GREEN AND BLUE...
AND WHEN I FILLED UP THE BACKGROUND AND BORDER
WITH GOLD AND SILVER GLITTERS...
IT GOT A REGAL AND ETHNIC TOUCH....
NO WONDER MY MOTHER CASUALLY REMARKED...
"IT LOOKS LIKE A THAMARAI POO (LOTUS ) RANGOLI..."
