Waiting for someone-A KERALA MURAL
Who is this damsel waiting for?
With her pet parrot for company,is she waiting for her beloved ?
With a song in her heart and dreams in her eyes...
In the lush green fields ....she waits to meet her dear one...
Under the shady tree -the apt place for a rendevouz...
Is this parrot ...her dear Thatthama...going to play
the role of a messenger just as the white swan played
the role of the courier in Damayanthi's love story???
This painting is done in KERALA MURAL style-using
Panchavarnas - The five colors used in a Kerala Mural -
Namely YELLOW,RED,BROWN,GREEN AND BLUE hues
and ,of course, BLACK AND WHITE....
The traditional murals of Kerala were done on the walls with
vegetable pigment dyes, but today we do it on a canvas with
commercially available acrylic colors...
Though traditional Kerala Murals were based on divine themes as
their homes were mainly places of worship, this one has a contemporary
or rather a folksy theme and it is something we can easily identify with...
Personally I feel such adaptations are necessary for art forms
if they have to thrive and be enjoyed by the classy as well as the masses...
